Be sure to ask for a number of copies, as you may find it more convenient to leave a copy with the various organizations. Here is the information you need:

  • Date of Birth
  • Name of spouse (maiden name of wife)
  • Legal Residence
  • Social Security Number
  • City and Province/State of Birth
  • Father's First Name

Helpful information to be brought with you when making arrangements
with the funeral director:

  • Deceased’s Birth Certificate
  • List of Surviving Relatives and Cities of Residence
  • Recent Photograph For Cosmetizing and Hair Styling
  • Insurance Papers (if used to pay for the funeral)

Miscellaneous:

Clothing

A full complement of clothing is required, including underwear and outer wear of your choice. Shoes are not needed. For women, an outfit with a closed neckline and long sleeves is desirable. For men, a suit, sport coat or customary outerwear is appropriate.

Other Items

Eye glasses, watches and other personal memorabilia like jewelry may be brought to the arrangement meeting. It is customary to have a discussion with your funeral director as to which items you wish to be left in the casket and which are to be returned to you.

Cremation

We prefer that the family bring in clothing as described above. It is customary to have personal memorabilia and other items like jewelry removed prior to cremation as they will be destroyed. Your best options are to place these items in the selected urn and/or ask for them to be returned to you.
